By 5 May 2026News

The UK2070 Commission warmly congratulates Professor Cecilia Wong, Chair of the Commission and Professor of Spatial Planning at The University of Manchester, on being awarded the Royal Town Planning Institute Gold Medal.

The RTPI Gold Medal is one of the highest honours in the planning profession and recognises exceptional achievement and international impact. Professor Wong becomes only the 17th recipient of the award since it was first presented in 1953.

This recognition celebrates Professor Wong’s outstanding contribution to strategic spatial planning, spatial analysis and evidence-informed policy. Her work has played an important role in advancing understanding of spatial inequalities, regional development and the need for a stronger national spatial vision.

The award is especially meaningful for the UK2070 Commission, whose work focuses on tackling deep-rooted city and regional inequalities in the UK.

The Commission offers its warmest congratulations to Professor Wong on this well-deserved honour.
